Welcoming today’s announcement of planned enhancements to rail services by the Minister for Transport and Islands, Partnership Chair, Councillor Will Dawson said “Tactran warmly welcomes the Minister’s announcement today. Our officers have been working hard over a number of years in partnership with Transport Scotland and the rail industry to develop and implement our Regional Tay Estuary Strategy (TERS) proposals. Major improvements delivered to date through TERS have included more frequent train services between Glasgow and Arbroath with significant passenger growth at stations like Gleneagles, Broughty Ferry and Monifieth, and a major upgrading of Gleneagles Station. The Partnership wrote to the Minister last year, calling for diesel trains which will become surplus after completion of the Edinburgh – Glasgow rail electrification project to be retained in Scotland to support aspirations for development of the national rail network, included our own TERS proposals. I am delighted that today’s announcement confirms Scottish Government agreement to this. Tactran will continue to work in close partnership with Transport Scotland, ScotRail and other Regional Transport Partnerships over the coming months to help bring the improvements announced by the Minister today, and which support our regional aspirations for enhanced rail services and connectivity, to fruition.”
