Audit Scotland Transport for Health and Social Care Report Published
Tactran has given a broad welcome to today’s publication of Audit Scotland’s report on Transport for Health and Social Care.
Tactran Chair, Councillor Will Dawson commented :-
“We welcome Audit Scotland’s conclusion that Regional Transport Partnerships, working with our Councils, Health Boards, Scottish Ambulance Service and other partners, have a key role to play in addressing the issues raised in their report”.
“Access to health and the impacts of transport on health are key issues which are already recognised in our Regional Transport Strategy”.
“Audit Scotland recommends that plans should be put in place to achieve efficiencies and improve partnership working. We have been working for some months in collaboration with NHS Tayside, NHS Forth Valley and the Scottish Ambulance Service to develop a Regional Health & Transport Action Plan for Tayside and Central Scotland”.
“We believe our Health & Transport Action Plan provides a timely framework for collaborative working with our Health Boards, Councils and other partners to address the issues raised by Audit Scotland’s report.”
The Draft Tayside and Central Scotland Health & Transport Action Plan aims to address not only the issues raised in the Audit Scotland report, about maximising efficiency through improved coordination of transport delivery and better information on the provision of transport to health services, but also promotes increased use of active travel modes - walking & cycling- as a means of improving personal health and wellbeing; looks to reduce the impact transport has on the environment and public health , for example through poor air quality; and encourages wider adoption of more sustainable approaches for NHS staff travel.
The Draft Action Plan has been informed by stakeholder consultation, including with Councils, transport providers, various sectors of the Health service and also patient and other user representative groups. The Plan is currently the subject of formal consultation with the Boards of NHS Forth Valley and NHS Tayside. We are reviewing the key messages and recommendations set out in Audit Scotland’s report, to ensure that these are recognised in our work on taking the regional Health & Transport Action Plan forward.
